A Cinderella Story

Neumeier's ballet is based on the Brothers Grimm version of this well-known fairy tale. The story begins with the illness and death of Cinderella’s mother. Due to her father's remarriage – and her mistreatment at the hands of her stepmother and stepsisters – the young girl grows up in a world that leaves her no place of her own. The prince, on the other hand, who actually wants to be an artist, feels trapped in everyday court life. Both dream of a different existence – and find a new truth in their encounter with each other.

Despite the depth and intensity that also characterize Prokofiev's rich and sonorous score, John Neumeier's A Cinderella Story is a ballet about the power of dreams and the coming together of two people who love each other. Prokofiev's music, in combination with John Neumeier's nuanced choreography, lends each scene vibrant colors, sparkling energy, and emotional nuance which bring this beloved fairy tale to life and deeply touch the audience.
