NEW WORLD
Revazov/Peck
New worlds emerge when a ballet is created, developed through the generative act of choreography and significantly influenced by the feelings and thoughts of the respective artist. The double bill NEW WORLDS combines a world premiere and a European premiere to create a stimulating and moving dance evening that takes the audience into different worlds.

Commissioned by Artistic Director Lloyd Riggins, Edvin Revazov will create a world premiere for this double bill. This will be his second work for the company. The long-standing principal dancer of the Hamburg Ballet has made numerous pieces to date – for the Young Choreographers' Evenings, for the Hamburg Ballet, and last but not least for the Hamburg Chamber Ballet, of which he has been the director since 2022. The HCB is a troupe of Ukrainian dancers who have sought refuge in Germany due to the conflict in their home country. Revazov founded the HBC to provide training and performance opportunities for these dancers; four years on, the well-regarded company is regularly welcomed in venues all over Germany. Most of the works in the company’s repertory are by Revazov.
Justin Peck's Copland Dance Episodes, created for New York City Ballet in 2023, was inspired by the music of American composer Aaron Copland. In his large-scale piece for 30 dancers, Peck masterfully and brilliantly translates Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo, as well as music from Appalachian Spring and Billy the Kid into dance. Although emotionally charged, the piece has no narrative plot. Instead, Peck relies on images and associations which have often inspired him as an artist: of an egalitarian community in which everyone plays an equal part and which, even in moments of uncertainty or conflict, finds a harmonious outcome. Copland's dynamic, exuberant, hopeful, but also sometimes melancholic and thought-provoking music provides the framework for one of Justin Peck's most successful works.
