Tanztriennale

The Dance Triennale is a flagship project of the German Federal Cultural Foundation. In 2026, the city of Hamburg will host the Dance Triennale for the first time, together with the project partners Hamburg Ballet, Kampnagel, and K3 – Center for Choreography. The Dance Triennale aims to showcase current trends in dance, facilitate professional exchange within the field, and bring together the various dance scenes – from urban dance to contemporary aesthetics to classical ballet.

Moving Meetings

As part of the first edition of Tanztriennale 2026, ‘Moving Meetings' are monthly gatherings for dance professionals of all genres, dance cultures, roles and backgrounds to come together to reflect, engage, share and be curious about each other’s practices, beliefs and experiences. Through these meetings the Tanztriennale would like to foster dialogue and exchange on relevant themes and across boundaries that often separate the different dance communities, encouraging a spirit of openness and mutual discovery.

We recommend registering via office(at)tanztriennale.de with the subject “Moving Meeting.” Admission is free. The event will be held in English.

All program activities are optional and can be adapted to individual needs. We recommend loose, comfortable clothing and sneakers, ballet slippers, etc.

Everyone is welcome to join, preferably wearing comfortable clothing. “All Moves” will take place once a month from October 2025 until the Dance Triennale.

Counter Balance Creations

With Counter Balance, the Dance Triennale introduces a new residency format that creates space for artistic experimentation beyond the usual dance canons. A jury will select a total of four duos, who are invited to explore the art form of dance across cultural and stylistic boundaries and to experiment with new connections beyond the dance world in dialogue with other sectors. The multi-week residencies will take place between January and June 2026 at partner locations across Germany and Hamburg. The results will be presented in June 2026 at the Dance Triennale in the opera stabile, among other formats, as Short Creations.
