Moving Meeting #4
Tanztriennale 2026
As part of the first edition of Tanztriennale 2026, Moving Meetings are monthly gatherings for dance professionals of all genres, dance cultures, roles and backgrounds to come together to reflect, engage, share and be curious about each other’s practices, beliefs and experiences. Through these meetings the Tanztriennale would like to foster dialogue and exchange on relevant themes and across boundaries that often separate the different dance communities, encouraging a spirit of openness and mutual discovery.
Curious? Join us – to move, meet and connect.

Topic #4: Building emotional resilience across differences This month, together with Jiaxin Chen and Merel Heering, we turn our focus to emotional strength and resilience. Together, they are looking into ways to build up both our individual and collective emotional resilience in order to stay present with and connected to each other in collaborations across differences.
Together, we will reflect on key questions such as:
- What societal or structural conditions shape our emotional resilience?
- What part of this is individual work – and where does our shared responsibility begin?
- How do our backgrounds and identities influence the way we relate to others?
- And how is our emotional stability connected to our capacity to lead or initiate change?
The meeting invites participants to engage with these questions. While offering a practice space to dig into the topic, they will invite us to remember and return to our bodies and our joy in the process.
Guests
Jiaxin Chen is a Netherlands-based dance artist, dramaturge, and curator active in the fields of dance and theater. Her practices are rooted in a critical awareness of identity and contextuality. She approaches vulnerability as a shared space for dialogue and collective reflection, and uses the theater space as a place to question systems, build connection, and to imagine otherwise. Jiaxin has worked with Dansateliers (Rotterdam) as an in-house dramaturge, curated for Korzo (Den Haag) and Maaspodium (Rotterdam) and is currently curating dance and theater at Stadsschouwburg Utrecht.
Merel Heering is a dance dramaturge, facilitator and alignment coach from The Netherlands. Her approach to dance dramaturgy is that of a social practice in which she combines her sensitivity for (inter)personal dynamics with her ability for critical and conceptual thinking. Merel’s practice is rooted in supporting social change and studying relationality. She brings awareness to positioning, artistic responsibility and she supports people and organisations in aligning vision and actions. Merel currently works for Maas Theater en Dans in Rotterdam as their organisational dramaturge, in addition to coaching independent choreographers and teams of dance companies, festivals, theatres and production houses across Europe.
Programme
- 30 min: Physical entry into the topic
- 30 min: Conversation with Jiaxin Chen and Merel Heering
- 90 min: Facilitated discussion and exchange with all participants
Participation in all aspects of the meeting is voluntary and can be adapted to one’s needs and desires. Opera Stabile is wheelchair accessible. If you have additional access needs or questions, please contact us via email office@tanztriennale.de
